XP desktop wont comes out after logging in domain

If you encounter xp shows up only wallpaper and mouse pointer after logging into "domain", and still you could press ctrl-shift-esc get into task manager... then you are not totally out of luck.

Try logout and login into administrator (local-pc) instead of domain. Observe whether it could goes into desktop. If yes, then most likely the user profile for the domain is corrupted.

What you can do is, with the local-pc administrator rights logged on, goes to c:\documents and settings folder, copy the corrupted user folder as backup. If you failed to copy some of the files indicated that it was in use. Then you may have to reboot it to safe mode to do it.

After copy into backup, remove all files and folder inside the corrupted user folder. Then reboot and login into domain with the same username and password. It will recreate all the necessary files upon login to windows. Try reboot a few more times to confirm the login can successfully goes into windows.

Then copy necessary files from the backup folder (such as bookmarks, desktop files, application data, local settings) back to the user folder. You may want to pick only necessary files to restore because most likely files from application data or local settings that would cause the explorer from loading properly. *** DO NOT COPY NTUSER.DAT, NTUSER.DAT.LOG & NTUSER.INI file.

The summary for the remedy:

1) login to domain
2) explorer fail to load desktop and taskbar
3) get into task manager by pressing alt-ctrl-del or ctrl-shift-esc
4) logoff current domain and login to local-pc administrator
5) backup contains from the corrupt domain user folder in c:\documents and settings
6) remove all files and folder in corrupt domain user folder
7) reboot and login with domain user
8) after confirm can goes into explorer after login, copy all necessary files back to the locations.
9) you may need to setup Outlook email and other settings after copy all the files back into the user.

Good luck

Windows XP automatic recreate a new user profile on login

A friend call me up. Complaining to me that all his stuff on desktop disappear. They were still there yesterday but some how they just disappear. No matter how many times he restarted, they just wont come back.

So, I teamviewer to his PC. Check his user accounts settings, it appears only 1 user. But there are 2 user profiles folder in c:\documents and settings.

It seems that windows simply recreate a new profile under the login. How could this happen?

Because its a new profile, it creates a new folder. This new folder normally name under the login name. Hence all stuff inside old folder has not moved into the new folder. What you need to do is, to move all stuff inside old folder such as "My Documents", "Desktop", "favorites" into the new profile folder.

Found a forum actually have solved this.

Login as administrator. When your creating a new profile because an old one is corrupt, rename the old profile to userbackup (or whatever) to a backup location. Then delete every profile for that user on the computer. Have the user log back in log back out. This will create their new profile location in My Documents and Settings. According to Microsoft you can import the whole folder that you backed up into the new profile except for three files:

• Ntuser.dat
• Ntuser.dat.log
• Ntuser.ini

Make sure these files are not copied to the new profile or you will have the same corrupt profile problem again.

Additionally to clear up any misconceptions about how the user profile creation works read the following...

1. User logs in.
2. A new folder for their profile is created based on their login name.
3. That user's SID (Security ID; unique to that users account) is recorded in the registry, along with the path of where that users profile is stored.
4. If the users profile for example, USER, is already taken it will create USER.DOMAIN, where domain is the domain you are connected to.
5. If USER.DOMAIN is already being used, it will create a new profile called USER.DOMAIN.000 and so on.

It is important to check the registry path for that user also after you have changed recreated their profile so that it is pointing to the right place, as sometimes this does not change when they login and a new profile is created.

It can be found at:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

That is where the SID's are stored in the registry. There is a key in there for each SID called ProfileImagePath where it will show you where that profile is stored on the computer.

How much is motor insurance premium increase?

Today the motor insurance premium tariff increased. I just receive renewal notice today then only realized its tariff increase today. AAAAHHHH... I missed the boat. Have to pay more for "feels good" service.

BNM had previously said that the tariffs which have not been revised for more than 30 years had been a major source of difficulties faced by the public in recent years.

NAH! BNM is talking bull shit. If its is so difficult, why on earth more and more banks want to invest into insurance business? More and more new insurance company want to venture into this business?? Why none of insurance company in Malaysia declare bankrupt due to unable to pay claimant for the past 30 years and still making money even though there are so many countless of insurance fraud case without evident, or over claim cases going on??? Think again, they are still making tons of money and they are demanding more.

So who pays the bill? You and me la who else?

Ok, cut it short. I am writing today is not to condemn. I am here to explain how the new tariff is being calculate.

First you must understand that tariff calculate based on type of vehicle. Such as private car, taxi or motorcycle and also engine cc. So I am talking about comprehensive here.

For private car with 1651 - 2200cc engine. Minimum sum insured is RM1000:
Previously before 16 Jan 2012, the first Rm1000 sum insured = RM277.90 premium. And subsequent RM1000 sum insured = RM26.00 premium.

Today, first RM1000 sum insured = RM 293.20 premium. And subsequent RM1000 sum insured is still remains RM26.00.

Conclusion is the tariff only increased on the first RM1000 sum insured, which is RM15.30 in this example.

RM15.30 may seems small amount of money. Malaysia got 21.25 million vehicle on the road. If only 30% of it are private cars, this year alone insurance company is making additional of approx RM 100,000,000 for private cars category. Don't forget there are new cars being registered everyday.
